Introducing // Codis Maya

Roshini and Jet are a mother and daughter jewellery design team from South London who make up Codis Maya, a company that creates men's accessories and jewellery, all handmade in England with traditional processes. They are an absolute pleasure and we can't wait to be neighbours.

This creative Mother and Daughter duo run every aspect of the business, from design to dispatch and are now looking to grow and take on another team member.

Codis Maya is a men’s accessory and jewellery brand that was launched 30 years ago and both designers illustrate each design by hand. These go on to be developed in British factories and workshops using highly skilled artisanal makers and traditional processes that the company tries to maintain in an age of mass manufacturing. Many of the pieces pass through the hands of around twelve different craftspeople and take around 2 months to create.

During her degree Roshini worked a lot with ceramics which lead her to use vitreous enamel (glass fired at 900 degrees). This is the signature material of the company but they also create simple pieces turned on lathes or made from castings for example. Some products like the bracelets are handmade by Jet. Jet McQuiston is a new ‘daughter brand’ of Codis Maya that creates a mix of classic and modern jewellery all handmade in England.

Roshini completed a Jewellery and Business Degree at Sir John Cass School of Art and two days after her final degree show had her daughter Jet. Needing to put her skills to use and work from home she decided to launch her own company and has been running it ever since.

Since its first collection of punk inspired pins and badges taken on by Liberty in the 80s, Codis Maya has grown to become a small but well-respected name chiefly behind the scenes of the menswear industry, with Roshini creating exclusive collections for larger fashion houses like Paul Smith and Margaret Howell.

Roshini’s daughter Jet came to join her 2 years ago and has recently started designing women’s jewellery as a sub-brand to Codis Maya under her own name Jet McQuiston.
