Part of the official Southwark Design District 23’ programme for London Design Festival 2023. Southwark Design District celebrates local designers, makers & creators who live, work & play in the area through a diverse range of happenings.

Join type design studio Dalton Maag for an interactive session to unlock the power of letter forms.

‍This workshop is designed to provide an introduction to the world of typefaces from the point of view of the type design studio. It involves theoretical and practical elements around both type design and typography, based on Dalton Maag's experiences working with brands large and small.

How can we shape letter forms into a style that evokes the emotional reaction we want to achieve? How do scale and context impact design decisions behind accessible letter forms? The workshop will answer these and other questions, key to designing and choosing type.

You will be drawing by hand with pencil on tracing paper, in a group of design enthusiasts. You’ll be able to review and discuss with the Dalton Maag team, and your fellow attendees. No specific level of proficiency with drawing is required, other than a love for type.
