For centuries artists have used gold leaf to add luminescent details to their work. The process, know as gilding involves applying gold that has been hammered into thin sheets onto a variety of substrates using a special glue called size. The workshop will explore how the technique can be used with paper screen printing to add shimmering accents and features to your work. You’ll need to supply an A3 2 colour design of your choice which we’ll pre-expose onto screens before the workshop. That means we’ll need you to email your artwork to us at least 3 days before the workshop as there will be no time to prep screens in the session. You’ll start by screen printing standard ink in a colour of your choice onto 300gsm paper. Once the first layer is dry you’ll be shown how to register and print the second layer of glue before the really fun bit – applying the gold leaf or glitter. Please note glitter is included in the cost of the workshop however if you’d like to use gold leaf you’ll need to supply this yourself. Based on your artwork we can advise both how much you’ll need, the specific type and where to purchase it from. This information will be emailed to you once your booking has been confirmed. Everyone will leave with an edition of 5 x A3 prints.
