Neil Cowleyis, undoubtedly, a titan in the UK’s music scene. Once the most listened-to pianist on the planet, throughout his career he has not been afraid to draw inspiration froma variety of genres – from funk and soul, to epic cinematic orchestrations, through modern classical to pop – until finally honing in on jazz when he set up the trio that earned him a spot on Jools Holland, and the highly coveted BBC Jazz Award. At the beginning of this year Cowley announced that his eponymous trio was on hiatus, and he was embracing a new musical direction, in part reflected in the choice of artists on his recent ‘Spacebound Tapes’ EP that included remixes by Rival Consoles, Throwing Snow, Christian Löfflerand Vessels. 2018 also saw the ever forward-moving composer co-write a track with Maribou Statefor their album ‘Kingdoms In Colour’, support Roy Ayersat the Barbican and record a mix for the esteemedSolid Steel series.
