gal-dem is a creative collective and magazine (online and in print). The aim of gal-dem is to open up our take on the world to a wider audience.

Launching in September 2015, gal-dem have managed to build their 'baby business' from scratch, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers. At the moment the 'gals' are looking into how we can become sustainable and applying for funding.

gal-dem is comprised of over 70 women and non-binary people of colour. Most of our team are based in the UK, but we do have a few farther afield, including the US and Hong Kong. We have a core editorial team of 18.

"We want people from all backgrounds to engage with the work we are doing. It’s no secret that the mainstream media doesn’t represent or reflect us, so we are doing it for ourselves."

We want to get bigger, bolder and better. We’re hoping to launch an internship scheme to bring in more of the Peckham gal-dem. And by the end of the year we want to have a strong business plan in place so that we can move forward and become a long-lasting independent organisation and magazine.
